Dev.Mag was an initiative first batted about in December 2005. Back then, it was only a wild fancy – but, surprisingly enough, people soon latched onto it and half a year later we were well into an online publication staffed by more than a dozen individuals, most of them professionals within their respective fields.
To this day, an online community known as Game.Dev (based at The Forums) is responsible for getting together and putting something out there which they believe can assist and enhance the local game-making crowd. These people are game development enthusiasts of all levels who share the aim of promoting their craft to others. Some are hobbyist programmers, others are professional designers and still others serve as marketing personnel for large South African IT companies.
With each new issue, we hope to incorporate more skills and advice in our quest to create the perfect game development magazine. At the end of the day, we want to have a substantial, local publication that is genuinely able to interest and educate those who make games – and, more often than not, those who haven't yet discovered the joy of doing so!
It's up to the SA gaming community to help us reach our goal. Analyse, criticise or spread the word. Tell us what to tell you. Help this become a publication that more people can enjoy. And, most importantly, be sure to enjoy it yourself!
